After first meeting in 2004 the pair turned each other's heads and the rest is history. The pair began dating in 2005 - Emma was a presenter on MTV at the time while Matt's music career in Busted was going from strength-to-strength.

Following three years of dating, Matt proposed on Venice’s Rialto Bridge and 15 months later they were married. Emma and Matt said 'I do' in 2008 in a stunning ceremony at 15th century stately home Rushton Hall in Northamptonshire with celebs including Jason Donovan, Holly Willoughby and Kara Tointon in attendance.

Despite the happy occasion, in his new documentary Matt has revealed how his struggled with drugs and alcohol left him struggling to enjoy the day. In fact, the nuptials took place just when Matt was just three days out of rehab.

“It was a really big thing for me,” he said. “Our wedding was three days out of rehab. I was gripping my chair for dear life. I didn't really have the time that people probably dream of on their wedding day so we got to renew our vows after 10 years.”

In addition to guests drinking champagne, they were also served shots of sambuca as their wedding favour, something Matt had organised and forgotten about before he went to rehab.

“We also gave everybody a little shots of sambuca as their table thing,” grimaced Matt. “I was like, ‘Oh God I forgot about that.' I organised that one!,” he added.

Despite his inner struggles, Matt beamed from ear to ear as he saw his beautiful bride walk down the aisle. For the occasion, Emma wore totally stunning bridal gown which was an ivory Phillipa Lepley number and featured a full-length tulle skirt.

Speaking exclusively to OK! magazine at the time, she said: "It looked so simple and elegant – and I loved it. It was gorgeous but on the original design there was a flower on the back, which I had removed and replaced with simple buttons.

"There was a train on it too, but I got rid of that as well. And the straps over the shoulders were a lot thicker on the original design. So although it wasn’t specifically designed for me, I made it my own."

Meanwhile, her shoes were Christian Louboutin and made of satin with a peep-toe.

Ten years after walking down the aisle for the first time, the couple decided to renew their vows in 2018 where they repeated the day by returning to the same stunning venue.

Not only this, but Emma also wore the same beautiful Phillipa Lepley wedding dress with a full-length tulle skirt wedding dress.

“We went back to the place we got married,” Matt said in the documentary. “It was just an incredible time. I really absorbed every second of it.”

At the vow renewal ceremony, Matt made sure he had fun and even got his TV presenter pal Stephen Mulhern to conduct the ceremony.

“Stephen Mulhern married us, you could probably sense the tone of the wedding,” he joked. “It was really fun. It was meaningful for me. It’s fun renewing your vows with your friends and loved ones around you, but for me, everything about it was different. I was different. I looked different. I didn't want to not be there.”

Speaking about bringing Matt home for the first time during an interview with the Daily Mail in 2015, Emma said: "I think I surprised myself.

"I remember going home to my mum and dad’s with this 21-year-old guy with tattoos everywhere and a blue Mohican and not quite explaining what was going on because I wasn’t quite sure myself."

Fast-forward 15 years since their wedding and Matt and Emma have got three kids and remain deeply in love, despite Matt’s ongoing battles and the constant fear of relapse.

In the BBC documentary, Emma has openly discussed how Matt’s battles have affected their relationship, admitting that there have been “bad times” during their time together.

“Along with addiction comes a lot of bad times,” she said. “As hard and as bad as that can be and has been, it also is part of who he is and who he is is who I love. We’ve been together for 18 years.”

However, bad as things became, Emma never wanted to leave Matt, with whom she shares children Isabella, 13, Ace, 11 and Trixie, now 7. Instead, the TV presenter is determined to help him avoid relapsing again.

“It's very easy to look in on a situation that you're not directly involved in and go, 'f*** that, get out of that,’” she explained.

“But when you're in it, you have that history together… and if you love someone you're not going anywhere. But it's not easy. Sometimes I feel like I’ve got four kids instead of three. There's been a lot of joy, but equally it's been incredibly heavy at times.”
