Olney turns out for 25th March for Jesus

The 25th annual March for Jesus kicked off with the traditional march starting at Tommy Perkins Park past the First Baptist Church of Olney and around the school campus before returning to First Baptist.

Approximately 200 people attended, including many from the Dallas area, making the gathering one of the largest for the annual march in three or four years, First Baptist Pastor Chad Edgington and organizer Verma Fobbs said. The crowd included many members of Mrs. Fobbs’ family from the Metroplex, and their numbers swelled the participants to nearly one-tenth of Olney’s population.

After the march concluded, illusionist and ventriloquist Kolby King of ThreeThirty Ministries and his son gave a spectacular speech on trusting God. Kolby King focused on how we cannot trust the things of this world.

To illustrate this, he used a few visual tricks to show that we cannot trust our own eyes but need to trust in The Lord. His son split a newspaper in half with a bullwhip while a volunteer and then Pastor Chad held it at arm’s length. The faith was not in the paper or the whip, but in young King.

In the same way, we cannot put our faith in the things of this world, but must only look to Jesus. Mr. King concluded his presentation by explaining that it was not goodness or righteousness that got us into Heaven, but only the Love of God.

After this presentation, the community gathered for a meal as well as a raffle for bikes for children and door prizes.

Both Mrs. Fobbs and Pastor Edgington hope that there will be many more years of marching for Jesus.
