A South Australian farmer recently made an amazing discovery when they caught a Spotted-Tailed Quoll. This species of marsupial was previously thought to be extinct in the Southern Australian wild. The Spotted-Tailed Quoll is listed as endangered in all of Australia. Estimates place their population at roughly 5,000 worldwide.

Spotted-tailed quolls are also known as Tiger Quolls. Habitat loss, introduced species, cars, and pesticides pose large threats to these marsupials. The largest marsupial predators on the Australian mainland, these quolls still weigh in at a diminutive four to seven pounds. They hunt small creatures and may also scavenge deceased larger ones. Wildlife officials are currently attempting to ascertain if there are other Spotted-Tailed Quolls in the area. However, they remind people not to attempt to capture the quolls on their own as they could inadvertently harm them.
