There are many species of Hoffmannia, mostly herbs which are normally grown as indoor plants or in parts of the country not subject to freezing temperatures. This one produces dark velvety,satiny, or taffeta fabric-like foliage, velvety green above and purple-red below. Flowers are star shaped. Provide a moist, fertile soil. Keep soil moderately dry during the winter months.
