Common Name Macrae's Bulbophyllum [English Plant Collector in Brazil early 1800's] - In China Wu Lai Juan Ban Lan

Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]

Found in Sri Lanka, Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam and India at elevations of 300 to 1500 meters as a large to giant sized, hot to cool growing lithophyte on mossy limestone rocks or occasional epiphyte on tree trunk bases with closely clustered, oblong pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, deep green, lustrous, thickly coriaceous leaf that blooms in the summer on a slender, basal, just longer than the leaf, 4 to 8" [10 to 20 cm] long, 2 to 6 flowered inflorescence carrying the flowers in an apical umbel.

This species requires hot to cool temperatures, high humidity, good air circulation, light shade and ample water throughout the year
