Native to Florida and the Greater Antilles. This species belongs to a genus of only 10 species. The growing conditions are similar to Encyclia species. These have a rather sprawling growth habit with a creeping rhizome. Can be grown in pots, on longer cork slabs or if you live in Florida you can mount them on trees or palms. We grow these in pots with New Zealand sphagnum moss or in a medium bark mix. The moss likes to become dry between watering unless the plant is developing flower spikes then water when there is some slight dampness to the moss. The 3/4 -1 inch flowers are born on tall flower spikes that can reach 3 feet tall. The flowering period is pretty long as the flowers emerge successively. When listed as in spike we like to ship these with shorter spikes as there is less damage. Photo of plant group is current for the offering.
