Trichocentrum stacyi

Trichocentrum stacyi

from $100.00

Synonym: Oncidium stacyi

Unusual and uncommon Trichocentrum species found high in the canopy of the tropical rainforests of Bolivia and Peru. Trichocentrum stacyi is among the “rat-tailed” oncidiums—a group with fleshy, cylindrical leaves evolved to tolerate drought.

Plants produce an inflorescence of gorgeous orange and yellow flowers, whose spotty pattern is mirrored in the foliage. Note the pin prick spotting visible in the close-up of the leaves, like tiny freckles.

Plants Available: Mounted on tree fern slabs, blooming-size or mature. Blooming-size plants are those that have reached an age and size at which they are expected to produce a bloomspike. Mature plants are those in spike/bud/bloom or that have bloomed previously.

Orchid Care: We grow this variety in our Vanda house—bright, indirect light; strong air circulation and high humidity; daily water during spring and summer. Mounted as they are, plants can dry easily between waterings, which is essential; this species is sensitive to overwatering.
