Stangeria eriopus is an unusual-looking cycad. So unusual that when it was first discovered in 1939 it was thought to be a type of fern.  The stalked, feathered leaves of the forest form grow up to 6 feet long with large, lush leaflets as in the photo of the parent plant. Male and female cones are borne on separate plants as in the photos of the parent plants. Stems grow up to ten inches in diameter and produce a distinctive white "wool" at the leaf bases.

Stangeria is native to Costal, Eastern South Africa. The climate there is hot and humid during the summer, and cooler with occasional frost in the drier winter. It prefers filtered light. Grow in well-drained, evenly moist soil, and keep protected from hot, direct sun. Fast growing for a cycad.

Seeds harvested from my garden plants in Southern California. They have been matured, cleaned and float tested. Germination rates of past batches have been good. For sale and shipped only in the USA.
