More than 500 people attended the 65th Air Force Anniversary Ball held Nov. 4 at the Radisson Resort at the Port in Cape Canaveral. This year's theme was, "Say Thank You to an Airman--Honoring the Past, Innovating the Future" and paid tribute to the Airman throughout our history who have made our Air Force what it is today.

The guest speaker at this year's ball was the Honorable James R. Clapper, Director of National Intelligence, and a retired Air Force Lieutenant General. His speech focused on the importance of understanding your craft, and he commended the Wing on how well we know our mission and how well "we know our craft."

Besides celebrating the birthday of the Air Force, the ball was also a celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Air Force Space Command. Gen. Anthony Cotton, 45th Space Wing, commander, recognized the many people that spent countless hours to make this event a success.

"I have seen many Air Force Balls, but this is the finest one I have attended," said Gen. Cotton, who also worked under the director as an executive officer earlier in his career.

"In my absence, I gave Colonel Pavelko (the 45th Space Wing Vice Commander) the task of putting together a ball that would celebrate both the birthday of the Air Force and the 30th Anniversary of Space Command with a team of CGOs, and not only did he rise to the challenge, but the event has exceeded my expectations. We must remember that it is the Airmen that allow us to accomplish our mission and now more than ever is a time to 'Say Thank You to an Airman.'"
