Scabiosa 'Mariposa Blue', from Australian plant breeder John Robb, is the first blue-flowered scabiosa that has not only survived, but thrived in our heat and humidity. The compact 10" tall x 18" wide clump is topped with large fully double light blue flowers that hover above the foliage on 20" tall stalks. The number of flowers, size of the flowers, and vigor are light years better than its predecessor, Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue'. Our oldest trial plants growing in our rock garden are six years old...pretty impressive life span for a scabiosa in the Southeast US. Plenty of sun and good drainage are the keys to success.
