The airport is of a sports type. The airport manager is the Podhalański Aeroclub. The airport has the ICAO code - EPNL. The airport was put into use in 1960, during a ceremony attended by the commander of the Air Force, General Jan Frej Bielecki. The landing field of the airport was made by the Engineering Forces. At that time, the Polish Aeroclub was subordinated to Military Aviation. Since 1969, the airport has been listed in the register of airports of the Civil Aviation Authority under item 15 (registration no. 16).
The airport is located in the town of Łososina Dolna, 20 km from Nowy Sącz in the meridional direction. It is 90 km from the airport to Kraków, 49 km to Tarnów, and 340 km to Warsaw. Access to the airport is very good, because the airport is located on the national road No. 75 Kraków - Nowy Sącz.
