Know the prospect: Wayne Selden

On Monday I wrote about the Knicks' apparent interest in tiny point guard/rapper Yogi Ferrell. In that same news nugget, it was also suggested that the team likes Kansas guard Wayne Selden, who is Ferrell's polar opposite in almost every way.

The first thing you need to know about Selden is that he's big -- a shade under 6'6" with a 6'10" wingspan and a chiseled 232-pound frame. He embiggens the guard role with him cromulent height and length.

Selden was the third wheel of that heralded KU freshman class which included Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid. He came back for his sophomore season and crapped all over the Allen Fieldhouse hardwood before putting himself back on the draft radar with a strong junior campaign.

DraftExpress has him as their 47th-rated prospect, which means the Knicks would have to pick up a 2nd-rounder to have a chance. On the plus side, we get some scouting videos!

Weaknesses!

Looking at this from a traditional Triangle perspective, Selden is big, unselfish and can hit shots off the catch -- all great things. The Knicks can also cover some of his weaknesses as a ball-handler. He can work some magic once he gets a head of steam, which could help the Knicks implement Hornacek's plan to run more fast breaks.

The biggest question with Selden is consistency. He fell off in Year 2 before picking it up in Year 3. His effort on defense comes and goes. His shooting form comes and goes. Will he build off his strong junior year and continue to grow into a more well-rounded player? If so, the Knicks could end up with a damn fine 3-and-D wing.
