Ray Liotta has tragically passed away at age 67 in his sleep, according to multiple news outlets. A statement by People reports that the actor died in his sleep while filming Dangerous Waters in the Dominican Republic. He was with his fiancé, Jacy Nittolo, at the time of his passing, and no foul play is suspected, the statement claims.

The award-winning actor is most known for his work in Goodfellas and Field of Dreams. He won a Primetime Emmy in 2005 for a guest role on ER and was twice nominated for a SAG Award for the 1998 telefilm The Rat Pack and the 2015 miniseries Texas Rising.

The actor starred in a number of popular films and TV shows in recent years, including the AppleTV+ series Black Bird, NBC’s Shades of Blue, and The Many Saints of Newark. In addition to filming Dangerous Waters, Liotta was due to star in The Substance and Cocaine Bear, as well as co-produce the A&E docuseries Five Families, Deadline reports.

In a November 2021 interview with People, Liotta opened up about his decades-long acting career. “It’s weird how this business works, because I’ve definitely had a career that’s up and down,” he said. “For some reason, I’ve been busier this year than I have in all the years that I’ve been doing this. And I still feel I’m not there yet. I just think there’s a lot more.”

Liotta leaves behind his fiancé Nittolo and 23-year-old daughter Karsen Liotta, who have not yet commented on his death.

The late actor opened up about family in his interview with People. “After years, you grow up, and you just see the pattern of things. I’ve definitely developed more patience,” he said. “Now I’m grateful for my health. And being born. For my parents that adopted me. I mean, it could have gone a lot of different ways.”

Celebrities and fans have taken to Twitter to share their condolences following the actor’s death. “Ray Liotta has died. His work as an actor showed his complexity as a human being. A gentle man. So sad to hear,” tweeted Jamie Lee Curtis.
