There’s something different about supermodel Brooke Shields these days—and it’s not just her surgery scar from her recent broken femur. The 56-year-old has fully embraced every bit of getting older. Now, she’s taking things a step further, saying that as she ages, she’s found a newfound confidence and sex appeal.

“There’s something about owning your sexuality at this age that is on point for where we are today. It’s not angry empowerment,” she said in a recent interview with People.

The actress added that she loves being a spokesperson for women in her age bracket, and doesn’t take the opportunity to represent an older generation of sexy women lightly.

“It’s such an honor to be my age and be represented. I feel the magnitude of it more. There’s a knowledge that comes with age, and this feels less like a job and more like a privilege,” she said in the interview.

For a recent denim campaign with Jordache where shields posed topless 40 years after her original Calvin Klein ad, she encouraged photo editors not to retouch her. “It was important for you to see this is my 56-year-old body,” she said in the interview.

She’s long been vocal about her thoughts on aging. In a 2020 interview, Shields told us that age doesn’t define anyone and there is always time to pivot and make healthy changes.

“I think what people start doing, is thinking, ‘Oh, I’m 50 or older’ or ‘I’m however many pounds overweight,’ and you set yourself up for failure and for insecurity by judging yourself,” she said. “I say it’s never too late to start and it doesn’t have to be excessive. Start with a little bit of something and see if you can build up. You have to be really conscious of a body that’s been taking care of you for so long.”

In December 2021 Shields spoke candidly with Yahoo! Life, admitting that women can be sexy at any age and should love their changing bodies. “I believe that it's a misconception that women can't be sexy over a certain age,” Shields said in the interview. “The acceptance of our bodies come at a later date. I live much more in my body now than I ever did.”

At 56 years old, Shields found comfort in her own skin that she didn’t have in her 20s and 30s. “My body actually feels like it belongs to me. And I can't say that about my youth,” she said. “I think there is a misconception that if you are not of childbearing ability, you don't seem to matter in the world. Because you do not keep the world going anymore.”

And Shields has most certainly pushed boundaries and approached life with strong confidence over the last few years. “We walk into rooms now and kind of think, well, I got nothing to lose. There's an uncomplicated nature to it. Confidence is the sexiest thing that I've ever encountered,” she said in the interview.
