In his playing days, Male featured for UPDF FC between 2007 and 2010 before joining Al Arab Port in Sudan in 2012.

Midway through the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, goalkeeping coach Dan Kiwanuka absconded from duty at Express FC.

His reason aligned with the difficult financial spell the club was enduring and ahead of the second round, the Red Eagles have moved on from him.

Ibra Male is now the new goalkeeping coach and he has immediately been impressed with the Express custodians.

“Knowing whether a player is good or not does not take long and I have been here for only two weeks now but I can tell you that the Express goalkeepers have a lot of potential,” Male told the club media.

“The level that they are at is really good though there is always room for improvement and that is where I come in.”

“My target is to ensure that we have the best goalkeepers in Uganda but that can only happen with us working together as a team so I believe with the rest of the coaches we have the task well laid,” he added.

In his playing days, Male featured for UPDF FC between 2007 and 2010 before joining Al Arab Port in Sudan in 2012.

Between 2012 and 2014 he was with Al-Hilal FC in South Sudan before he served as a coach player at Nice FC in Dubai between 2015 and 2018. His last job was at Dubai Dragons FC in 2019.

Express who are known for their defensive resilience conceded 15 goals in the 14 league games played in the first round of the current season which is an average of a goal conceded per game.

They could still not keep a clean sheet as they advanced to the Round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win over Buganda Regional League side Kajjansi United FC on Sunday.

The seven-time league champions are ninth on the 15-team log with 17 points, they will kick off their second round against UPDF at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku on Saturday.
