I don’t care what anyone else says, iced coffee isn’t a seasonal drink! No matter the temperature outside, I’m happy to sip on a cold glass of homemade iced coffee (or an iced coffee smoothie, when the mood strikes!).

While regular iced coffee is good, an iced caramel latter is a million times better! And when you stir a little sea salt into the drink, the caramel and coffee flavors really pop.

The iced caramel latte recipe I’m sharing with you today can be made with any mixture of homemade and store-bought ingredients you’d like. It’s easy to customize using flavored coffees, flavored caramel sauces, different milk varieties, and so on.

I love that this coffee drink can be customized, and also that it’s cheaper than buying iced coffee from Starbucks or another coffee shop.

Skip your regular glass of iced coffee tomorrow morning and treat yourself to a homemade iced salted caramel latte instead!

Ingredients for an Iced Caramel Latte

I’ll go into more detail later in this post about the many ways you can customize your iced coffee. But let’s first go over the ingredients you’ll need to make a salted caramel iced latte:

  • Brewed coffee (chilled)
  • Milk
  • Caramel sauce
  • Maldon sea salt
  • Ice cubes
  • Whipped cream (optional)

How to Make a Caramel Iced Latte

This iced salted caramel latte recipe is as quick and easy to prepare as you’d think! Here’s an overview of the drink assembly:

  1. Pour the chilled coffee over ice in a glass. Set aside.
  2. In a liquid measuring cup, add the caramel sauce and sea salt. Stir in the milk.
  3. Pour the caramel-milk mixture over the iced coffee and stir to combine.
  4. Top with whipped cream, caramel drizzle, and pinch of sea salt if desired.

Recipe Variations to Try

This may be a four-ingredient recipe, but it’s a surprisingly flexible one! Make one or more of the following changes to the recipe, if desired.

  • Coffee: In lieu of regular brewed coffee, you can use your favorite instant coffee, homemade or store-bought cold brew, or brew a serving of flavored coffee.
  • Caramel sauce: Skip the salt altogether and make your own salted caramel sauce instead. Or, buy your favorite flavor of caramel sauce from the store. If you buy a pre-made caramel sauce that contains salt, you may want to scale back or eliminate the sea salt in the milk mixture altogether.
  • Milk: Any kind of milk will work. I prefer unsweetened almond milk in my iced caramel lattes, but use your favorite variety.
  • Sea salt: You may use another flaky finishing salt. However, do NOT use regular table salt to make this recipe! Table salt is smaller and not as flaky, which makes it taste far more salty.
  • Whipped cream: Use homemade or store-bought whipped cream. Or, use a milk frother to froth up some cold milk to pour over top. You can also find non-dairy whipped cream at the grocery store, if that’s necessary for you.
  • Ice cubes: Can be replaced with coffee ice cubes. As they melt, the coffee flavor will just increase rather than become diluted.

Make-Ahead Instructions

Once you’ve assembled your salted caramel iced latte, you need to drink it right away (I know that won’t be a problem for my fellow coffee drinkers!).

However, you can certainly brew a big batch of coffee and refrigerate it to enjoy in your iced lattes throughout the week. Likewise, if you plan on using homemade caramel sauce, you can make a batch of it for later.

I don’t recommend mixing together the milk, caramel sauce, and salt ahead of time though. That’s best done when you’re ready to assemble and drink the iced caramel latte.

Tips for Making a Homemade Iced Caramel Latte

  • Make sure to use sea salt, rather than table salt for this recipe. Sea salt is larger, flakier, and has less of a salty flavor compared to table salt.
  • Make or buy caramel sauce for this recipe, not caramel syrup. Caramel sauce is thicker in texture and much richer and more complex in flavor than caramel syrup, which can be sickly sweet.
  • If you hate watered down iced lattes, swap out the ice cubes for coffee ice cubes. To make, simply pour room temperature brewed coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze!
