Queensland Dottyback

(Ogilbyina queenslandiae)

Ogilbyina Dottybacks are hardy, and easy to feed. Plenty of rock work with cracks, caves and crevices should be provided for hiding. They will eat crustaceans, polychaete worms, bristleworms, mantis shrimp and small fish. A diet of meaty based foods should be provided daily. Ogilbyina Dottybacks are very territorial and very aggressive towards other fish. Ogilbyina Dottybacks should only be housed with larger fish that are not easily harrassed such as large Eels, Angelfish, Tangs, Groupers, Squirrelfish, Snappers, Triggers and Rabbitfish. Color differences will be seen between juveniles, females and males.

The Queensland Dottyback is also known as the Queensland Reef Perch. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Queensland Dottyback male and females may have color differences. Females generally have a gray head with a bit of yellow or orange color above their anal fin and five to six chocolate colored stripes on its upper back, fins may be tinted red. The front part of the males body tends to be a light red color while the back portion may be a purple to grey color, with light blue fins with a small portion of the dorsal fin being red. They can grow to almost 6".
