Calvin Quate
12/07/1923Calvin Forrest Quate (December 7, 1923 ā July 6, 2019) was one of the inventors of the atomic force microscope. He was a professor emeritus of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. - Calvin "Joonie" Gary, Jr., better known by his stage name 'JOONIE' is an American singer, songwriter, arranger and musician, specializing in soul, R&B and popular music. Born in Jacksonville, North Carolina into a musical family, where in addition to the musical influence of his parents, Gospel music and soul music were always a part of his life. Joonie and his family relocated to Seattle, Washington, when he was 12 years old. It was then, Joonie began his musical journey. He taught himself how to play the piano, guitar and other instruments, locking himself in his room for days practicing and creating music he wanted to hear. As is the case with so many great soul and R&B artists, Joonie began his vocal career singing and playing musical instruments in the church and performing in community choirs, school assemblies, where he won many talent competitions. Although Joonie is an accomplished multi-octave range vocalist, and versatile musician; his goal was not to be a singer, he just wanted to be a songwriter. His break came along after he was forced to sing his own demos, because he could not find a vocalist to emote his songs the way he felt they should have been sung. A friend got Joonie's demo CD to rapper and producer Warren G, who helped Joonie secure his first label deal at the age of 21.Due to creative and ideological differences, layered with internal changes at the record label, Joonie walked away from the deal and Joonie took a hiatus from the music industry, where at one point; he says, he "almost lost his desire to create".For several years, Joonie stayed behind the scenes in music, writing, arranging, producing or playing instrumentals for other artists including, Elliott Yamin, Ruben Stoddard, Nappy Roots and creating unreleased collaborations with Angie Stone and Mos Def, but, after touring and performing with Elliott Yamin, on two worldwide tours, and seeing the audience reactions to Joonie's performances, Joonie knew he needed to step back into the forefront once again. Also during this time, Joonie also worked on a number of film and television related projects including an appearance on "Lincoln Heights (TV Series)"; and was the Musical Director for the 2009 film, āI Do, I Didā, which also featured several of Joonieās songs, including āSunshineā, āMake it Lastā, āDelilahā and āAcoustic Loveā. The single "Sunshine" is a promotional single available on Joonie's websites, however, "Make it Last", āDelilah and "Acoustic Love" are featured on Joonie's 2010 āAcoustic Loveā album. āAcoustic Loveā, Joonie's debut album, released April 27, 2010 is a compilation of Contemporary R&B songs, performed by, as well as written and produced by Joonie. āAcoustic Loveā expresses his feelings about love and relationships, explored from a very rare point of view in current popular music; one where romance exists, women, are valued and appreciated, a story is told and pure emotions are expressed set to perfect arrangements with infectious rhythms and uniquely void of misogynistic lyrics, so prevalent in todayās urban music. His ability to tell a story in his songs without vulgar or derogatory language, as well as his classic Soulful sound has been praised by music critics and bloggers. Genres: Soul, R&B, Nu-Soul, Pop, Contemporary Soul, and Contemporary R&B

Calvin Hampton
12/31/1938(George) Calvin Hampton (December 31, 1938 ā August 5, 1984) was a leading American organist and sacred music composer. Hampton was born in Kittanning, Pennsylvania and raised in Ravenna, Ohio. He graduated from Oberlin Conservatory in 1960 and from Syracuse University in 1963. From September 1963 through June 1983, he was organist and choirmaster at Calvary Episcopal Church in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of Manhattan. His āFridays at Midnightā organ recital series, which ran from 1974 to 1983, was among the most well-known and popular organ recital series in American history. Hampton also composed music for the church and the concert stage. In 1974, he composed music for Walter Leyden Brown's production of Herman Melville's Pierre, or the Ambiguities, which was produced at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in the East Village of Manhattan. Before Hampton's death, Erik Routley, an authority on church music, called Hampton "the greatest living composer of hymn tunes." His settings of the Episcopal liturgy are also used in Catholic churches, and his choral works are innovative and challenging pieces of sacred music. Hampton also transcribed music from other sources for the organ. His versions of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and CĆ©sar Franck's Symphony in D minor for organ are particularly noteworthy. Hampton's views on the proper design and function of the organ, particularly in the orchestral context, were controversial because they conflicted with neo-Baroque views. Hampton eventually stopped working at the church to concentrate on composition and organ consulting. During this time, he consulted for several important classical organs in the United States. He contracted AIDS but remained active until the final few weeks of his life, composing the massive Alexander Variations for two pipe organs while almost completely bedridden in 1984. He died at the age of 45 near his parentsā home in Port Charlotte, Florida. - 10/28/1980Calvin Lamar Pace (born October 28, 1980) is a former American football outside linebacker of the National Football League. - 07/04/1872Calvin Coolidge (born John Calvin Coolidge Jr.; ; July 4, 1872 ā January 5, 1933) was an American politician and lawyer who served as the 30th president of the United States from 1923 to 1929. A Republican lawyer from New England, born in Vermont, Coolidge worked his way up the ladder of Massachusetts state politics, eventually becoming governor. His response to the Boston Police Strike of 1919 thrust him into the national spotlight and gave him a reputation as a man of decisive action. The next year, he was elected vice president of the United States, and he succeeded to the presidency upon the sudden death of Warren G. Harding in 1923. Elected in his own right in 1924, he gained a reputation as a small government conservative and also as a man who said very little and had a rather dry sense of humor.Coolidge restored public confidence in the White House after the scandals of his predecessor's administration, and left office with considerable popularity. As a Coolidge biographer wrote: "He embodied the spirit and hopes of the middle class, could interpret their longings and express their opinions. That he did represent the genius of the average is the most convincing proof of his strength".Scholars have ranked Coolidge in the lower half of those presidents that they have assessed. He is praised by advocates of smaller government and laissez-faire economics, while supporters of an active central government generally view him less favorably, though most praise his stalwart support of racial equality.MoreĀ Calvin Coolidge
