Report: Raptors to sign Eric Moreland to 10-day contract

Former camp invite will have a chance to impress while filling in for the suspended Serge Ibaka

With Serge Ibaka suspended for their next three games, the Toronto Raptors will add some big man insurance in the form of 6’-10” power forward Eric Moreland:

Moreland was a training-camp invite with the Raptors this past fall, and played in three of their five preseason games before getting cut.

It’s hard to say how much of an impact Moreland will have with the Raptors this time around. On the one hand, the Raptors are working on solidifying their playoff rotations, and it’s, uh, safe to say that Moreland isn’t part of that mix. On the other hand, Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam can’t play 48 minutes at the 4-5 spots, so someone needs to give them a breather! We’re also into key “load management” time as the team looks to ensure everyone stays healthy heading into the postseason, which may means a few additional minutes for Moreland.

Either way, best to keep your expectations low with Moreland’s role on this team; if he impresses, great! And if not, well, those 10 days go by darn quick.

Speaking of, earlier this season, Moreland signed a 10-day with the Phoenix Suns — but he only played five minutes in one game. Last season, though, Moreland made a slightly more notable impact with a middling Detroit Pistons team; he played in 67 games, and hauled in 4.1 rebounds in 12 minutes per game.
