Widespread in the Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia at higher altitudes, this "tree chili" is one of the least distributed and most unique of cultivated pepper plants and can attain the size of a small tree with semi-woody stems and hairy leaves, even though it is usually seen only as a large herb or subshrub. "Round Yellow" is grown in southern Colombia for its edible, small, round, golden yellow fruits that are fruity sweet and moderately spicy. In Colombia it is served in peanut sauce with grilled meat.
