Description
Naturally small bulbs, covered in a pale, ghostly tunic produce just 3-5 narrow leaves below a stem some 20-25 cm tall. This is topped with a dense hemisphere of pale red to red-purple flowers which are made early in the season in warmer climates but as late as July in cold ones.
An attractive garden plant for a sunny well-drained spot, sparing with its offsets (often not making any at all) but of distinctly ‘different’ appearance to many garden species.
A native of China, but ours are raised in Europe from cultivated stock.
