Description

Matt to slightly polished, mid-green foliage. The foliage is recorded as being quite narrow but this is not a feature that springs to the fore when you see the plants, as they get larger, with good cultivation, so they can in time become quite wide (up to 2cm).

The flowers have deeply notched inners with a small, dark green mark at the tip only, however the notch can bisect the mark splitting it into two tadpole-shapes, as you can see in one of our pictures (of our own plants incidentally).

Cultivation here is exactly as for all of our other species, except that we keep them in pots, to enable hand pollination, under glass, at flowering time, then we sink them back in their plunge after. Growth here has been slow, perhaps because we cherish it and pamper it, but seedlings are now coming along. We have incidentally noticed that each of our original three mother bulbs (now mother clones) is subtly different in the markings and shape of their flowers. One in particular is very vigorous in comparison to its two siblings (over-observation perhaps)?

Our seed-raised, cultivated stock is still very small as yet, in both size and numbers. We were lucky enough to get just three bulbs from the Belgian bulb grower Hendrik van Bogaert, some years ago, he in turn personally collected the seed some years earlier, so this is authentic material.
