GERMANY: Leipzig routs promoted Nuremberg 6-0 despite missed penalty

BERLIN — Nuremberg goalkeeper Fabian Bredlow saved a penalty but that didn't make up for the six goals he had already conceded as his team lost 6-0 at Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

With more than an hour gone, Tim Leibold was sent off as the last defender for bringing down Timo Werner. But Werner, who had scored twice already for Leipzig, saw his spot kick saved in a rare moment of success for the visitors.

Leipzig, aware that Borussia Dortmund scored seven past the promoted side, kept pushing for more. Leipzig captain Willi Orban struck the post with a header.

The result lifted Leipzig second on goal difference ahead of Borussia Moenchengladbach, Werder Bremen and Hertha Berlin, all on 14 points.

Bayern Munich, beaten 3-0 at home by 'Gladbach on Sunday, dropped to sixth.

Dortmund leads by three points after seven rounds.

Also Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt won 2-1 at Hoffenheim and Freiburg held Bayer Leverkusen to a 0-0 draw.

ITALY: Ancelotti making all the right moves at Napoli

ROME — Carlo Ancelotti's constant lineup changes are paying off.

Napoli has fielded a different starting 11 for each of its 10 matches in all competitions this season.

Adam Ounas, the latest player to crack the lineup, made an immediate impact Sunday by scoring the first goal in Napoli's 2-0 win over Sassuolo on Sunday.

Lorenzo Insigne, who replaced Ounas in the second half, scored Napoli's second.

The variations are a reversal of how former Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri used virtually the same lineup for every match.

Sarri was even known for making the same substitution near the hour mark of almost every game, replacing captain Marek Hamsik with Piotr Zielinski.

Sarri's unwillingness to use more players bothered Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, who began to wonder why he spent money for new acquisitions.

Ounas, who appeared in only seven league matches for Napoli last season, became the 21st different starter under Ancelotti.

After Ounas' half-volley goal, Insigne found the target with a splendid shot from beyond the area into the far top corner.

Insigne also scored a 90th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday, after which De Laurentiis praised Ancelotti .

"I am going through a good period of form," Insigne said. "I hope to continue like this and to keep scoring regularly, but aside from all that, I really hope Napoli can go all the way in every competition."

Napoli moved back within six points of Serie A leader Juventus, which won 2-0 at Udinese on Saturday and beat Napoli 3-1 last weekend.

HIGUAIN BRACE

Gonzalo Higuain scored twice for AC Milan in a 3-1 win over Chievo Verona.

Both of Higuain's goals were set up by Suso, who has been the assist man for Higuain on all three of his goals at the San Siro since joining Milan.

"When I played for other teams, I would watch Suso play and admire his quality," Higuain said. "His second assist today was fantastic and it's thanks to my teammates that I get goals."

Suso also set up Milan's third for Giacomo Bonaventura before Chievo's 39-year-old captain Sergio Pellissier pulled one back.

SEVEN FOR SEVEN

Genoa's Krzysztof Piatek scored with his first touch six minutes into a 3-1 loss to Parma, making him the first player to score in the opening seven Serie A matches since Gabriel Batistuta achieved the feat in 1994-95.

Piatek, a 23-year-old Poland striker, has scored a league-best nine goals.

In 1994-95, Batistuta scored in 11 straight games for Fiorentina and ended the season with 26 goals.

Parma responded to Piatek's opener with three goals in a 15-minute span of the first half from Luca Rigoni, Luca Siligardi and Fabio Ceravolo.

OTHER MATCHES

Lazio edged Fiorentina 1-0 with a first-half strike from Ciro Immobile, and Sampdoria won 1-0 at Atalanta with a goal from Lorenzo Tonelli.

SPAIN: Sevilla, Atletico move past Madrid with wins

BARCELONA, Spain — Sevilla and Atletico Madrid both took advantage of Real Madrid's latest slip by winning Sunday to leapfrog the European champion at the top of the Spanish league.

Sevilla beat 10-man Celta Vigo 2-1 to go two points clear of Madrid, while Atletico edged Real Betis 1-0 to move one point in front of its crosstown rival.

Barcelona can overtake both sides if it wins at Valencia later Sunday.

Madrid lost 1-0 at Alaves on Saturday, extending its scoring drought to four games across all competitions.

"We will watch the other teams on television, we just have to focus on ourselves," said Sevilla's goal-scorer Pablo Sarabia.

SARABIA'S SEVILLA

Sarabia once again proved to be Sevilla's most dynamic player, scoring one goal and setting up another to lead Sevilla to a fourth consecutive victory in the Spanish league.

Sarabia headed in a cross by Jesus Navas in the 39th minute. After Celta's Nestor Araujo was sent off with a second booking, Sarabia assisted Wissam Ben Yedder for a tap-in that was initially ruled to be offside but allowed after a video review.

Sofiane Boufal scored a superb goal late on for Celta after dribbling forward from the center line and curling in a right-footed strike.

SUPER SUB

Substitute Angel Correa came off the bench and created the goal that Atletico needed to break down Betis.

Correa recovered the ball in midfield and exchanged passes with Thomas Partey before stroking a shot from outside the area beyond the reach of goalkeeper Pau Lopez for the 74th-minute winner.

Nikola Kalinic, who made his first start for Atletico in place of the injured Diego Costa, hit the post in the 52nd.

After only one win in the opening four rounds, Atletico has won three of the last four.

"We are happy to have gotten stronger," Correa said. "You can always improve. We have been working hard and this is the result."
