Info

(Jordan & Snyder, 1904)

Very special thanks for the first three wonderful photos of Coris musume to Dr. Tomonori Hirata, Uwajima-shi, Ehime-Prefecture,Japan!

Coris musume occurs in the sub-tropical region of Japan ( (including the Ogasawara Islands and Izu Islands), ranging south to western Taiwan.
Concerning "IUCN Red List of Threartened Species" Coris musume occurs at the Philippines too.
Juvenile Wrasses are active cleaners and adults may also engange in such activities with large pelagics.

Coris musume is found on rocky substrates with sand, rubble and low algae growth.

Coris musume is closely related to Coris picta from Australia and New Zealand.

Synonym:
Julis musume Jordan & Snyder, 1904

Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Chordata (Phylum) > Vertebrata (Subphylum) > Gnathostomata (Superclass) > Pisces (Superclass) > Actinopterygii (Class) > Perciformes (Order) > Labroidei (Suborder) > Labridae (Family) > Coris (Genus) > Coris musume (Species)

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
