Idotea balthica (Pallas, 1772)

Idotea is a genus of isopod crustaceans, mostly from cold temperate waters.

Feeds on decaying vegetation, especially Fucus vesiculosus.

Husbandry know-how of owners

Ich habe diese Klippenasseln jetzt seit einem guten halben Jahr im Aquarium (ungeheiztes/ungekühltes, aber kühl stehendes Nordseeaquarium). Ich habe sie mit japanischem Beerentang von Borkum "importiert". Diese Asseln ernähren sich sehr gerne von diesem Tang.
Die großen Asseln paaren sich recht gut und die Kinderschar ist riesig.
Ich halte sie zusammen mit Caprella mutica und Jassa falcata/marmorata in einem 10-Liter-Aquarium, das funktioniert sehr gut.
Die kleinen Nachwuchsasseln brauchen zunächst sehr feine Algen, später gehen sie dann sehr gerne auf den Beerentang (Sargassum muticum), der ist dann nach recht überschaubarer Zeit aufgefressen. Wenn man diese Tierchen halten möchte, sollten Tange vorhanden sein.
Festere Rotalgen werden nicht gefressen.

Ansonsten sind diese Asseln sehr nett zum beobachten!
