Info

Scorpaenopsis possi is a very common scorpion fish, but most divers and snorkelers will not necessarily have identified it as Scorpaenopsis possi due to its similarity to other scorpion fish.
A reliable indication of Scorpaenopsis possi is a white patch under and in front of the eye, and on a dark triangular patch under the eye.

As this scorpion fish also lives in very shallow waters, we recommend all bathers to use good bathing shoes to avoid stings of this fish.

Unfortunately we do not have access to the first determination of this scorpionfish "Revision of the Indo-Pacific scorpionfish genus Scopaenopsis, with descriptions of eight new species".

In this paper the following species were described:
Scorpaenopsis longispina Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis obtusa Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis orientalis Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis pluralis Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis possi Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis pusilla Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis ramaraoi Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001
Scorpaenopsis vittapinna Randall & Eschmeyer, 2001

The scorpion fish would be named in honor of S. G. Poss
