Info

Halisarca australiensis Carter, 1885

Halisarca australiensis is a fast-growing sponge that is not recognizable as such at first glance.

Only a closer inspection can identief the cream or pinkish-yellow sponge, which particularly often covers Boltenia species (stalked sea squirts) with its strong growth,
as for example with Pyura spinifera.
But not only sea squirts of the genus Boltenia have to "reckon" with a quick encrustation, the sponge apparently covers everything it comes in contact with.

Consistency of the sponge:
Thin and spreading or contracted, sedentary and massive, consistency soft, elastic and tough, but yielding like dough
down to the lowest pressure.
