Info

Onchidella nigricans (Quoy & Gaimard, 1832)

Onchidella nigricans is a leathery air-breathing sea slug, a shell-less marine pulmonate gastropod mollusc in the family Onchidiidae. Feeds on detritus and is a algae grazer.

The colouration of this shell-less, slug-like animal is variable, usually black or grey but can be red, orange or dirty yellow in colour. The dorsal surface can be smooth or granulated. Have a pair of tentacles with eyes at their tips.

Known to secrete a substance that other animals dislike reducing the number of potential predators.
