Toxicity

This is a general hint!
Epizoanthus planus has a harmful toxin.
As a rule, animals with a harmful poison do not pose mortal danger in normal Aquarieaner everyday life. Read the following husbandry information and comments from aquarists who already keep Epizoanthus planus in their aquarium to get a better picture about the possible danger. However, please be careful when using Epizoanthus planus. Every human reacts differently to poisons.
If you suspect that you have come into contact with the poison, please contact your doctor or the poison emergency call.

Info

Already in 2018, a new deep-sea zoanthid was first described ifrom the waters of the Japanese island of Jogashima in Sagami Bay.
We would like to thank the first author, Hiroki Kise, for sending us a photo of this new deep-sea anemone.

The discovered colony consisted of 10 polyps, which were connected by a well-developed, dark grey coenenchyma between two sea urchin spines.
The polyps each had 20 - 22 transparent tentacles with a height of 2 to 4 mm, arranged in two rows around the oral disc.
The colour of the tentacles was described as transparent with cream-coloured tips, and the brown (tan) oral discs reached a diameter of 10 to 15 mm.

As these small anemones were discovered in very deep water zones, offerings for fans of azooxanthell zoanthids are not to be expected.
