The stony coral Javania cailleti, belonging to the family Flabellidae, resembles at first sight rather a typical anemone.
The body column in anemones is flexible and consists of living cells, while Javania cailleti forms a hard, calcareous and cup-shaped skeleton.

However, Javania cailleti is a solitary coral that occurs to great depths, which can only be observed using an ROV.

The first photo is from the Anegada Passage, a Caribbean strait between the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla, the second photo is from Davidson Seamount from 2673 meters depth.
