Amathia verticillata is an erect, soft-bodied bryozoan. These mossaniimal was first described from the Mediterranean Sea and now widespread in tropical, subtropical, and warm-temperate waters around the world. Its invader in California, Hawaiii, Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the Galapagos, the Azores, and Madeira.
This bryozoan is found on wood, rock, vegetation, including eelgrass, shells, and man-made structures. Colonies of Amathia verticillata have had negative impacts by clogging shrimp fishing gear, fouling cultured pearl oysters, and overgrowing and killing eelgrass.
