Info
We like to thank Dr. Glen Whisson for his written permission to use his great photos.
Silhouettea hoesei is a sand-colored goby with five large reticulated W-shaped side spots along the midline, a transverse band of fine melanophores (wider than the pupil) across the nape, males have densely pigmented branchiostegal membrane.
With its ground coloration and side spots, the goby is perfectly camouflaged on its substrate, shallow sandy and silty sandy areas.
The word "silhouette" here can be appropriately understood as "slender" and "narrow", alluding to the very small size of the goby.
A look at the second photo with the metal measuring stick by Dr. Glen Whisson makes this very clear.
Virtually nothing is known about the biology of the goby.
The species was named after the fishologist Dr. Douglass (Doug) F. Hoese, Australian Museum, Sydney, in recognition of his work on the systematics of Indo-Pacific gobies
Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
