Info

The fang blenny (Plagiotremus ewaensis) is reef-bound and often hovers above the reef waiting for unwary fish.
The fang blenny quickly attacks other fish to bite scales, mucus and skin tissue from its prey with lightning speed.
However, the bites do not usually result in the death of the prey fish.

Plagiotremus ewaensis has large fangs, which it uses for feeding and defense.

The species is not collected for trade, and is best left in the wild.

Etymology of the genus name: Plagiotremus is from Greek, "plagios" = "oblique" + Greek, "trema" = "hole."

Synonym: Petroscirtes ewaensis Brock, 1948

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
