Chlopsis bicolor, the bicolor eel, is found at great depths on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, where it lives on the shelf and upper slopes.
During the day, the eel keeps to itself,
typically nocturnal predators. During the day they bury themselves in the mud in holes or burrows and probably come out to hunt at night.
Due to the deep distribution of the species, the diet of the bicolored eel could not be determined for a long time.
It was not until a large-scale study in 2022 that light was shed on the subject by examining the stomachs of captured eels and identifying a wide range of cephalopods, starfish, crustaceans and fish, see
