Bathygobius lacertus (Poey, 1860)

Body color grayish brown. Upper body with 3 indistinct dark saddles, and a 4th saddle on end of tail base. The lower body with a checkerboard pattern of 2 rows of 6-7 offset dark blotches.

Can be found in sheltered and exposed rocks, sandy bottom and in mangroves.

Similar to Bathygobius antilliensis, Bathygobius curacao, Bathygobius geminatus, Bathygobius mystacium and Bathygobius soporator.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
