Info

Grammatorcynus bilineatus is a slender, metallic bluish-green mackerel that becomes silvery toward the belly, with no spots on the belly, a relatively large eye, and a divided lateral line, the lower portion of which curves downward behind the pectoral fin and extends to the caudal peduncle on the underside.

This species of mackerel forms dense schools near reefs, often near outer reef walls or over deep clearwater slopes.
This fast predator feeds on crustaceans and fish, especially fish of the clupeoid genus such as sardines and anchovies.
The menu also includes triggerfish and even other predatory fish such as small barracudas.

The epithet "bilineatus" is Latin and means "two-lined", referring to the divided lateral line of the mackerel.
