Tricornis tricornis ([Lightfoot], 1786)
Tricornis tricornis is a marine snail in the Strombidae family, which are called pteropods because of their shell shape. Members of the family have finger-like projections or an elongated siphon channel. The horny operculum is long and curved and serves as an aid in locomotion. Winged snails have the so-called strombus notch, through which the left eyestalk sticks. Winged snails are found in shallow water in warm and tropical seas and have a predominantly herbivorous diet.
Tricornis tricornis is known as the three-horned wing snail or three-horned winged snail. The algae and detritus eating snail reaches a remarkable size of up to 17cm.
