Caulerpa is a genus of seaweeds in the family Caulerpaceae (among the green algae). They are unusual because they consist of only one cell with many nuclei, making them among the biggest single cells in the world. A species in the Mediterranean can have a stolon more than 3 m long, with up to 200 fronds. This species can be invasive from time to time.

Referring to its thalli's crawling habit, the name means 'stem (that) creeps', from the Ancient Greek kaulos ( ‘stalk’) and herpo ( ‘to creep’).

Wächst sehr schnell und muss auf jeden Fall regelmäßig gestutzt werden. Ist es jedoch absolut wert im Becken gelassen zu werden. Beim stutzen nimmt man Nitrat und Phosphat aus dem Kreislauf. Die Teller können sich aufblähen und werden dann teilweise Kugelrund, bleiben aber meistens flach. Die runden kann man hin und wieder ausquetschen. Das lässt Vitamine und Aminosäuren ins Wasser. Jedoch sollte man das nicht zu viel und nicht zu oft machen weil Nitrat und Phosphat diese begleiten. Die Vermehrung durch Gameten Kann man verhindern indem man die durchsichtig werdenden Köpfe sofort stutzt. Solche Algen auf gar keinen Fall die Toilette hinunterspülen oder ins Meer freilassen sonst passiert sowas wie mit Taxifolia im Mittelmeer.

Diese Algenart hat sich bei mir aus den lebenden Steinen entwickelt. Es fing mit einem "Blatt" an, und nach knapp 2 Monaten hat es fast den kompletten Stein zugewuchert. Ohne tägliches Stutzen der wurzelartigen Triebe würde diese sich im ganzen Becken ausbreiten und noch mehr meiner Korallen überwuchern.
