Gymnothorax miliaris (Kaup, 1856)

This moray eel has a brown light or dark background color dotted with small yellow spots. These later are smaller on the head and larger at the tail.

A color morph of these eel, frequently called the "Banana Eel" is mostly yellow with large spots instead of many small spots.

It feeds mainly on small invertebrates, including crustaceans and mollusks, rarely on small fishes.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
