Colubraria tenera (Gray, 1839)
Colubraria is a genus of sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks in the family Colubrariidae. Members of this genus lack a radula and feed by sucking blood from fish.
Like most other species Colubraria tenera parasitizes sleeping fish, usually parrotfish, at night. Also, one specimen was found sucking the blood of a mostly buried stonefish (Synanceia verrucosa) in a seaward reef ledge during the day.
Synonymised names:
Colubraria castanea Kuroda & Habe, 1952
Colubraria fantomei Garrard, 1961
Triton comptus G. B. Sowerby III, 1874 (Invalid: junior homonym of Triton comptus A. Adams, 1855; Colubraria castanea is a replacement name)
Triton tenera Gray, 1839 (original combination)
