Maja crispata Risso, 1827 in [Risso, 1826-1827]
Males are slightly larger and have larger claws. My bag under the broader female body. The presence of Maja crispata is limited to the Mediterranean.
Rarely can you find them outside of the Mediterranean, if you are specifically looking for it, which sounds quite easier than it is, because this crab goes well with everything that has her camouflaged.
In some regions it is even quite often, so you can find them, in you excursions into the "depths" of the Mediterranean.
Synonymised names:
Cancer majoides Nardo, 1847
Maia verrucosa H. Milne Edwards, 1834
Maja erinacea Ninni, 1924 (junior synonym)
Maja verrucosa Milne Edwards
