Alpheus eulimene, De Man, 1909
Alpheus eulimene is an snapping shrimp, and belongs to the Crinitus species group within the genus Alpheus. It has been found on corals, dead coral, coral rubble and occasionally sponges. It is widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific, from Australia and Indonesia, north to the Philippines and Japan, and the Northern Mariana Islands, west to the Maldives.
Closely related to Alpheus styliceps, A. Stanleyi, and A. arethusa, A. Eulimene can be separated by slight differences in morphological characteristics. Maximum body size is 5 mm (carapace length). Already a really good eye is necessary to perceive these little fellows on or in a coral.
