Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Montipora angulata are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Montipora angulata, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Montipora angulata, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

(Lamarck, 1816)

Dr. Len Zell, Australia, has provided us with the first image of the rare Montipora coral.

The colonies are encrusting, with short, twisted, tuft-like branching.

Unfortunately, this light brown stony coral is also now listed as a threatened species on the IUCN Red List.

The coral is found in fringing reefs and lives on its zooxanthellae.

Rare species!

Colour: Pale brown.

Habitat: Fringing reef flats.

Abundance: Rare.
