Dr. Len Zell, Australia, has provided us with the first image of the rare Montipora coral.
The colonies are encrusting, with short, twisted, tuft-like branching.
Unfortunately, this light brown stony coral is also now listed as a threatened species on the IUCN Red List.
The coral is found in fringing reefs and lives on its zooxanthellae.
Rare species!
Colour: Pale brown.
Habitat: Fringing reef flats.
Abundance: Rare.
