The parrotfish is host of two copepods, Orbitacolax analogus Vervoort, 1969 and Sarcotaces komaii Shiino, 1953.
The population in the eastern Atlantic is likely a distinct species to the population in the western Atlantic.
The fish feeds on benthic algae and seagrass.
