Info

(Valenciennes, 1840)

The redfin parrotfish inhabits coral reefs and seagrass beds, it is a protogynous hermaphrodite and some reports of ciguatera poisoning exist.

The parrotfish is host of two copepods, Orbitacolax analogus Vervoort, 1969 and Sarcotaces komaii Shiino, 1953.

The population in the eastern Atlantic is likely a distinct species to the population in the western Atlantic.

The fish feeds on benthic algae and seagrass.
