Info

Cairns, 1998

Very special thanks for the first photo of Truncatoflabellum veroni to Joseph Caparatta, Manhattan Aquariums, Ny Aquarium Service, Unique Corals, USA!

Dr. Stephen D. Cairns described in his essay "Azooxanthellate Scleractinia (Cnidaria: Anthozoa) of Western Australia"
of occurrence of this stony coral along the North West Australian coast of Cape Jaubert to Onslow, here at a water depth between 40 to 119 meters, from the Northern Territory, Anson Bay and Beagle Gulf, here at a depth of 15 to 31 meters on soils with coarse sand and rubble.

Since these large polyp-stone Coral do not receive their energy by photosynthetic symbiosis algae, light intense and light duration do not play a role for the coral, the limiting factor is solely to catch enough zooplankton and the depth of their occurrence in the sea.
The encyclopedia of life (EOL) has reported the deepest known poin at 439 meters, the Marine Species Identification Portal even 1450 metres!

As the name implies, this species was named in honour of the Australian coral specialist Dr. J.E.N. Charlie Veron.
Truncatoflabellum aculeatum is the most similar to Truncatoflabellum veroni

We are curious to see, whether there will be the one or other information to Truncatoflabellum Jules given by aquarists.
