Caribou (known as reindeer in Europe) have been the subject of a genetic study, recently reported in the International Journal, Nature, revealing that the species adapted to ancient ice ages during which sheets of ice consumed much of their habitat.
Since such climatic events shaped their genetic make-up, researchers now fear that the animals will be unable to adapt to future climate change. Read more here
