Kansas Football Depth Chart: Michael Cummings Officially Starting Quarterback

John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Clint Bowen released an updated depth chart today with three (that I can see) changes, but the biggest is that Michael Cummings, who started on Saturday against Oklahoma State, is now officially the starter.

Cummings completed 54% of his passes, throwing for 288 yards and 7.8 yards per attempt in the Jayhawks' loss. He also ran for a touchdown. His career quarterback rating, via college football reference, stands at 111.9.

The other two changes were that Nigel King is officially the starter at the X wide receiver spot, and Senior Tedarian Johnson is a starter at nose tackle.

King is fourth on the team in catches, but second on the team in yards per catch. Johnson has 4 tackles (1 TFL) on the season.

The big question, other than the changes, is how this impacts Montell Cozart. The Sophomore had his redshirt burned last year in a somewhat controversial move, but now the question is whether Cozart will ever get his starting job back. Cummings is a year ahead of him, and probably will start the end of the year as well as maybe next year. Whomever is hired to take over for Charlie Weis will likely bring in a recruit to run the show, and Kansas also has Bishop Miege quarterback Ryan Willis, the 20th rated pro style quarterback, committed.
