Craig B This was truly an odd movie. Very unique in its unsettling and creepy themes. Difficult to recommend, but if you are pressed for time (ie you have less than 80 minutes free) and you are up for something different, perhaps worth a look. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/10/24 Full Review HytaleGermany The movie "Good Boy" tries to be an creative horror movie but fails to achieve that goal by far. First of all I need to say that the costume design of the dogs is quite good. It has the creepy vibe it needs to have. Also the idea of the main antagonist is quite interesting. The camera work is mediocre. And some of the scenes in the second act are quite tenseful. But this is all good I can say. Here is what I think is problematic: 1. Unclear mood I watched the movie as a sneakpeak in cinema: So I did not know what I was seeing. The first half of the film (around 50% was introduction that was way too much) you were merely able to figure out what this movie wants to be. Supposed to be creepy moments cause laughter in the audience maybe it is a commedy, dialogue scenes feel staged and unnatural like in a weird rom-com, but at no moment in the first half of the movie you get the feeling that this is some kind of a horror movie. Maybe it was a made decision to be that confusing in the beginning. But with that lack of tension the first half was just uninteresting. All you wanted to know was why there was a man in the dog costume. But the first half merely does anything regarding that question, and everything else falls flat tensionwise. 2. Characters as deep as water in a dog bowl Characters in this movie fall very flat. The main protagonist has no character traits out of being sexually interested. All we find out is, that she studies psychology... which is unimportant for the movie. Also the psyche of the antagonist is only partially discovered. It has a very interesting . yet somehow 3. Setup Of course - since this is a horror movie - it has to play in a house in the woods far away from civilization.... 4. The Ending Two major dumb decisions made by the main character near the end of the movie lead to a very frustrating and staged ending: (Spoiler from here): -Why did she not run away to get help but turn around? -Why does she hit him only once without checking that he is unable to attack again 5. Unlogic thing -The roommate of the protagonist knows who the rich guy is. If the protagonist goes missing (which she does) she does not try to do a thing? All in all a very uninspiring movie. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/24 Full Review Alex S Que filme horrível, dá desgosto de viver só se assistir esse filme, direção, atuação, tudo horrível. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Mercedes R This movie was actually pretty good even though it wasn't the best movie ever made I still enjoyed it a lot. The movie was creepy and it made me think about it days after seeing it especially with the ending. I recommend this movie for people who just feel like watching a creepy/"funny" movie. Phil Hoad Guardian There is enough meat here – touching on digital dating etiquette and the underlying emotional viscera – for a Hollywood remake. Time for Matt Damon to wriggle into that furry outfit. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills Good Boy is an astute miniature that summons considerable power to disturb. I do wish its denouement hadn't been marred by some basic credibility issues, but the overall effect is nonetheless creepy as hell. Sep 19, 2023 Full Review Jon Mendelsohn CBR Norwegian horror flick Good Boy features a shocking storyline and plenty of jaw-dropping twists. Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Norman Gidney HorrorBuzz A fiendish flick about relationships and power dynamics that leaves the viewer chilled to the bone. Rated: 7/10 Sep 12, 2023 Full Review Christian Toto HollywoodInToto.com Legitimately shocking thriller keeps us guessing until the final, unsettling frame. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 11, 2023 Full Review Oscar Goff Boston Hassle It soon becomes apparent that the film only has one trick up its sleeve, and once all the chips are on the table the film settles into an icky rut of by-the-numbers torture porn.
