Demosponges


Demospongiae is by far the largest and most diverse class of the sponges, comprising more than three-quarters of all sponge species worldwide. They are distinguished by their skeleton of spongin, which is a collagen-like protein that gives these sponges their distinctive texture. This protein is not found in any other sponge types.
